Meniscus Injuries

Knee Pain, Locking, or Swelling

A meniscus injury occurs when this protective cartilage partially or completely tears. It may result from a sudden movement, twisting during sports activities, or progressive wear and tear over time.

Every injury is different. Dr. Luna carefully evaluates each case to provide a treatment plan focused on relieving pain, restoring mobility, and preventing future complications.

Meniscus Injuries

Most Common Symptoms

  • Pain on the inner or outer side of the knee
  • Recurrent swelling
  • Locking or catching sensation
  • Difficulty bending or straightening the leg
  • Instability while walking

If these symptoms persist, a specialized evaluation is recommended to determine the type and degree of the injury.

Treatment Options

Treatment depends on the severity of the tear and the patient’s age and activity level. Options may include:

  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Physical therapy and muscle strengthening
  • Activity modification
  • Joint injections
  • Knee arthroscopy, when necessary

Surgery is recommended when pain, locking, or functional limitation persists despite conservative treatment.
